Two Little Words...

WORK ETHIC - I know, it doesn't seem like much to you. But in reality, it is nearly everything. A man is only as good as his words - these two in particular. This is a foreign concept for most people. I'm not sure what the world is coming to, but if the percentage of employable persons that are actually conscientious of the meaning of these words is any indication, we might well expect something epic like the great flood to be coming our way.

I find it absolutely incredible the lengths and depths I have to go to to get even the littlest things out of the people I work with. It's worse than trying to feed squash to a toddler!

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Pray for me, folks!

Frustrations

Remember that commercial for Heinz Ketchup where they used the Anticipation song and you had to watch while the ketchup moved like molasses out of the bottle? That's what it's like getting nearly anything done in Haiti. I'm posting this here because this is my Rant and Rave page and I don't want to put it on the other.

It seems like everything we try do do here is a matter of one step forward, 17 steps back.

I have been waiting since October 11th for this man to get me my permanent resident documents. He has so far stood me up over 20 times, even refusing to take my calls for a period of two weeks. And when I try to confront him on it, he has absolutely no sense of wrong-doing.

So here I sit and wait, he is over 2 hours past due. The days just keep passing and nothing happens and there's no way to compel anyone to do anything except for threats of bodily harm.

Harumph!

Oh how I long for the days when I could just make someone do push-ups when they pissed me off! lol

Keep praying for me. I'm sure to evolve eventually!

Take this jobsearch and shove it!

So, I've been looking for meaningful work for going on some 20 months now, and the really depressing thing is, I'm nowhere closer to an interview now, than I was then!

I've got until May before I finish school to get a degree that wont even qualify me for the job I have now and no money to continue my education after that.

Please, oh please, oh please universe, throw me a rope or something. Then at least if things don't start looking up, I'll have the resources to hang myself!

Prayer for the day: Please show me the direction I am supposed to be going in?

Conversations with myself

Well, there are a few things I'd like to say to a few people that just wouldn't be prudent at this time. So, I'm going to say them to myself.

Here goes:

*You really piss me off when you walk around here like little miss oh I'm so special and you're sweet to everyone but me. Get over it. I hurt your feelings. I said I'm sorry. Pull up your big girl panties and get on with life.

*I really can't figure out where I went wrong. How did you spend all that time with me and still end up thinking and acting the way you do?

*I really miss you and I don't think you put me high enough on your priority list. I feel like I should be more important to you.

*I don't understand why you continue to shut me out. I am the closest living relative they have on earth besides you. It hurts me to the point of crippling me that you won't let me be a part of their lives.

*So I took advantage of you. I was wrong to do that. But just for a moment I wanted to pretend that you hadn't done the same thing to me all those years ago.

*acknowledge me, dammit!

*I no longer have the desire to have a relationship with you. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me...I won't be fooled a third time.

*if I was any lonelier, I'd be a big-haired 80s rock ballad.

Tired, Tired, Tired

I'm so tired! I have to take these student success seminars for an extra 10 points toward my econ class...so the first one was time management. We had to do this exercise where we calculate the amount of time we spend on each of our daily tasks to determine how much time we have to study. According to what I proposed, I wanted to study approx 14 to 15 hours per week. All things accounted for, I have approx 17 hours avail. That means that sleep and everything else accounted for, if I put in my proposed hours of study each week, I end up with 2 hours of free time - total...ugh!

The up side of being this busy and tired all the time is that I hardly notice that my bff has abandoned me for some as of yet unknown infraction on my part, nor do I have time to think about my situation with the house, nor do I have the time to experience empty nest syndrome. Which is all a good thing, cuz mostly I'm just sad about my work situation...apparently I am a little too "me" for some of the clientele. Once again, it is up to me to adjust to make everyone comfortable...Someday, when I win the lottery, or marry an uber rich man on his way to his funeral, or some such other extremely feasible means of becoming independently wealthy, I am soooo not going to miss all this petty BS!

Dear President Obama #60: I fought the law…and the lawyers won

Are you as disgusted with Geithner's reasoning for alowing the AIG bonuses as I am? I am mad as hell. I lost my flippin job because of those a-holes' greed and ambition. And to boot, I get to pay my portion of the bill for their increases!

Anyway, here's an article from Tom Foreman, he's a regular contributor to AC360. He is on a mission to write a letter a day to Pres Obama. This is letter # 60 and it is very poignant.

Check it out:

F*** My Life

Today, I was turned down for the China job because I selfishly chose to raise my child with no support from his father or the government and worked my behind off financing really expensive christian education for said child instead of spending the money on finishing my education. My child is graduating this May with a 1.5 GPA. Since I lost my job, I won't be able to pay for his college either. FML

You think you have stress???

Okay, so I thought I was making some marked improvements in handling my current situation (ie, losing my job and possibly my house and nearly my mind!)

I've been diligently forcing myself to go to the gym on my regular gym days, even if I don't feel like it. It's always nice to visit with the group of "regulars" I associate with when I'm there and also I like to take in the Arizona Dry Heat room for a little soothing heat and meditation even if I don't "work out".

I've been TRYING (mostly unsuccessfully) to stick to my eating plan. I've been hitting about 70% - but I just can't seem to keep the comfort foods off my plate!

I've been going out for drinks with the girls to keep social (and sometimes to vent, thank you girls!)

I've been trying to avoid situations that will just make me angrier/sadder/more frustrated.

I've been avoiding the news, though some of it slips through. (don't get me started about the Sect of Treasure appointment or the $871 billion dollar "stimulus" package.)

It's funny how stress can rear it's ugly (and sometimes humorous) head.

So, I disembark my vehicle upon returning from the gym the other day. I grab my bags out of the back seat, and with keys in hand, slide up the icy walk to the porch. As I approach the porch, I slide my key fob between my thumb and index finger "Hmmmm", I think to myself. "I wonder why it's not clicking?" I try this several more times, getting really perturbed when it suddenly dawns on me, "The car unlock button doesn't unlock the front door to the house!"

I quickly glance around to make sure no one witnessed my utterly STUPID act. UGH!

Once inside the house, I quickly rid myself of my bags, coat, shoes, etc and head straight for the "pharmacy". I opened a bottle of *Ghetto Neegro and dispensed 1 healthy dose of the stuff that makes it all better! Thank you God for fermented grapes!

So, at break time, I make a run for the little girls room. After taking care of business, I washed my hands and dried them with paper towel. I turned and walked over to the can to throw away my used towel. Once in front of the can, I stuck out my right leg and tapped the tiles on the floor.

Nothing happened.

I tried again.

Nothing happened.

I tried a third time, and realized mid-tap that I was trying to open the lid to my can at home, which has a foot pedal, and this one didn't!

Gah!

So, I'm going home after I'm done stealing these interwebz and dosing myself amply!

Ahhhhh, vino, the sweet nectar of avoidance and denial!

*Ghetto Neegro is my besties kids mispronunciation of our recently discovered, wonderfully tasting cheap, grocery store wine, Gato Negro, sold at a Meijer near you! Usually on sale 3/$10!

For my friend

When you get to work on March 3rd and you can't IM me yet cuz I'm still sleeping, just remember:

“If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together...there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart...I’ll always be with you. ”

Leagle Eagles, confidential surveys and other such corporate non-sense

Bah! I defy anyone to prove to me that these stupid corporate compliance programs serve any purpose other than creating work for some jack-ass that had nothing better to do and giving the company another bullet point to stick on there "oh, look what we've done" bull$hit metrics...

Every year we have to do these stupid things, generally the same ones each time...they're pathetically dry, although they are supposed to be designed to be hip and urban. The quickest way thru them is to skip to the questions and answer them til you get a pass. Some genius decided that wasn't good enough, there was no way to determine that the person using the tool was ACTUALLY reading the material, so now you can't advance thru the material until you've accomplished some sort of verification to show you actually looked at each page...blah, blah, blah

You know what I do? I click the crap out of my mouse til I get thru it. I defiantly refuse to read thru ANY of it...Stick it to the MAN!

Then, to make things worse, they publish the required modules in the spring and give you until the end of summer to complete them, only then the site publishes the requirements and then says you have to finish them by the end of the week!

WTF?

And don't get me started on confidential surveys...they are supposed to be confidential and they are supposed to be optional, so how come my boss has asked me 4 times over the last 2 days if I've finished it or not? Why is the front office tracking who's completed it and who hasn't? Why are they now issuing edicts that we MUST be 100% compliant by the end of the week?

Jackasses! They've got too little to do, then on top of it, they expect us to drop everything to do these things...

WTF?
